West Ashley looked like the top ranked team in the state when it hosted Summerville.

The Lady Wildcats, ranked first in the Class AAAA state coaches poll, handed the Lady Green Wave a 62-29 loss Wednesday. West Ashley (4-0) jumped out to a 23-6 lead in the opening period and took a 37-12 lead into halftime. Summerville (2-1) managed to slow the Wildcat scoring a little in the second half, but not enough to matter.

“I give them all the credit,” Summerville coach Matt Legare said. “They are a great team and they outplayed us. I just wish we would have played up to our capability because I think it could have been a closer game. Hopefully we will get better so that we can stand up to teams like them by the time the playoffs get here.”

Baylor commit Dekeiya Cohen led all shooters, scoring 19 points for West Ashley. Jue McLemore added 15 and Jhanice Stokes 13 for the Lady Wildcats.

Heather Chapman led Summerville with 15 points and Rodnesha Capers added 6.

Summerville travels to Hanahan Saturday and hosts Wando Dec. 17.
