Last Thursday three performers made it one step closer to becoming an American musical sensation and winning a recording contract and cash prize on The X Factor.

Country group Restless Road, which includes Summerville’s Andrew Scholz, wasn’t one of them.

The group made it to the semifinals but got the fewest number of votes from the public and was cut before making it to the final round of the FOX hit show.

The band members – Colton Pack, Zach Beeken and Scholz – all originally auditioned for The X Factor as solo artists, but judge Simon Cowell put them together in a group and they quickly became a favorite with viewers.

Scholz auditioned for the show this past May, the same week he graduated from Summerville High School. Before joining the competition he performed locally at SHS, Palmetto Flats and other area venues.

The band’s last performance was Luke Bryan’s summertime hit “That’s My Kind of Night.” The rendition was not a hit with all of the judges though, dissimilarly to the previous week’s performance of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up,” which reached No. 2 on the iTunes country chart.

The guys, aged 18 and 19 years old, call themselves a “country man-band” and have gained popularity over their weeks on the show by doing country renditions of pop and alternative rock songs. Others songs they performed include Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose,” Coldplay’s “Fix You,” and Katy Perry’s “Roar.”

Although their run on The X Factor is over, the group said they plan to continue trying to make it big.

“Keep a look out for Restless Road,” said Scholz.
