Lady Green Wave rolls over Lady Hawks

Roger Lee/Journal Scene Ashley Green scored 15 points for Summerville Saturday.

The Lady Green Wave rode a fast start to a 68-44 win Friday at Hanahan.

Heather Chapman scored 11 first-quarter points to lift Summerville to a 21-15 lead. In the second quarter, Ashley Green and Zuri Green both scored 8 points to help Summerville take a 41-26 lead into the half. Zuri hit two 3-pointers in the second and Ashley hit one.

Summerville went to its bench in the third period and sophomore Cierra Ketchel scored 4 points as the Lady Green Wave took a 57-37 lead into the final period.

“We got back to focusing on playing Summerville basketball tonight,” Summerville coach Matt Legare said. “Hanahan has a good team and they’re well coached, so we were pleased to be able to get back to playing good basketball against them. Ball movement on offense and team defensive pressure were the key tonight.”

Chapman led all scorers with 24 points. Ashley Green added 15 for Summerville and Zuri Green added 13.

Hannah Brown led Hanahan with 11 points while Tenea Hamilton and McKenzie Yon both added 7 for the Lady Hawks.

Summerville improved to 3-1 on the season while Hanahan fell to 2-3.

Summerville will end the calendar year with appearances at the Shootout by the Sea tournament in North Myrtle Beach Dec. 20-23 and the Carolina Invitational in Charleston Dec. 27-30.
