The Ashley Ridge basketball teams split with a pair of teams from Australia Saturday.

The Swamp Fox boys earned a 69-49 victory over the Northside Wizards. After taking a 2-point lead in the opening period, Ashley Ridge got the hot hand and outscored the team from down under 45-25 over the next two periods. The Swamp Foxes sank four shots from behind the arc during the run.

Raekwon Jones finished with 19 points to led all scorers. Corbin Landers added 8 points and Tyquan Tucker added seven for the Swamp Foxes, which had 12 players score. Landers and Jeremiah King both hit two shots from behind the arc and Ben Crimminger and Tucker also sank a 3.

Ethan Fleming led the Wizards with 11 points and Josh Pittle added 10 points. Chris Charlton hit three shots from behind the arc to account for 9 Wizard points.

The Ashley Ridge girls fell 39-37 to Team NPIRE out of Australia.

The Lady Swamp Foxes had a good start in the game, getting out to an 11-5 lead in the opening quarter. However, NPIRE outscored Ashley Ridge 10-4 in the second quarter to tie the game going into the half and finished strong.

Ashley Ridge held a small lead late in the final period, but Jessica Lowe made a steal for the Aussies and scored on a break for a 38-37 NPIRE lead. The Lady Swamp Foxes had some opportunities in the closing minute but didn’t capitalize.

“I thought we played well at times but didn’t quite do enough to get the win,” Lady Swamp Fox coach Chris Shaw said. “I give the Australian girls a lot of credit. They have a great knowledge of the game and did a good job spacing us out and feeding the post. They only missed one free throw the entire game and beat us on the boards too.”

Shelby Daly led all scorers in the game with 13 points. Meg Tomey led NPIRE with 12 points.

The Ashley Ridge teams host Stratford Friday and then open region play with a road game at Bluffton Jan. 14.
