Celebrate the New Year by joining Summerville’s literati at this month’s Third Thursday, January 16. Summerville Dream’s event this month is “Author! Author!”
Ever wonder how writers get their inspiration? Want the unique experience of listening to authors read their own works? Come meet local authors, immerse yourself in an evening of literature, and get your favorite writer to sign a book just for you. Some fifteen writers will share their works ranging from autobiographies, memoirs, humor, poetry, novels, and short stories.
For example, be enchanted by a mythical tale for children from Jan DiRuzzo, learn about the legend of South Carolina’s state flower from Becky Dingle, and get spooked by stories about Summerville’s haunted places from Bruce Orr.
Plan on making an evening of it by touring new shops in Summerville like Caffe Italia and Savvy Rose on Short Central.
Or check out the relocation of some old favorites like The Village Knittery, now at 219 South Cedar Street.
Call your book club buddies and have dinner at one of the historic downtown restaurants as well as attend the “Author! Author!” events. Check the Summerville DREAM website, www.summervilledream.org, for specifics about the event and for a map of the locations.
Summerville DREAM (Downtown Restoration, Enhancement and Management) has exciting plans for 2014; make it a New Year’s Resolution to join the party every Third Thursday of the month in the center of downtown Summerville, 5 to 8 p.m. – rain or shine.
Unlike losing those pesky few pounds, it’s an easy resolution to keep, so start off right by coming to Summerville’s historic downtown this January 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. It’s the perfect chance to get acquainted with the downtown area, enjoy an event, and spend time with your neighbors and friends.
