The annual Links at Stono Ferry Winter Blast interclub match was held Jan. 6 to kick off the 2014 Charleston Area Menís Interclub Golf Association season.
Like the last few years, by the time golfers finished the temperature was dropping rapidly and the wind was blowing hard.
The host team easily came away with honors for the day, finishing with a score of negative 18. Close behind Stono Ferry was Dunes West with a runner-up score of negative 25.
Trailing were Berkeley (-30), Pine Forest (-35), Rivertowne (-40), Westcott Plantation (-40), Charleston Municipal (-44), Charleston National (-45), Crowfield (-46), Legend Oaks (-49), Shadowmoss (-52), Coosaw Creek (-59) and Summerville (-61).
The top score was an amazing (given the weather conditions) plus 9 by Pine Forestís Jim Carlton, who pulled 62 points against his 53 required points. Larry Hendrix, with a plus 5 score, was one of six other players who finished in the plus column.

The match also marked the official changing of the guard for association officers.
Rich Bull has taken the reins as tournament director. He replaces Ken Ward, who provided many years of great service to the association.
Mike Phillips has taken over as the association president. He replaces Steve Windich, who also provided several years of service.
Just prior to the match members of the Coosaw Creek team were honored for capturing the 2013 Interclub Championship. Phillips said it is fitting that as the Coosaw captain Windich cap his tenure as president with the championship in hand.
