The Ashley Ridge girls defeated Fort Dorchester 48-32 Friday to pick up their second region win of the week.

Point guard Shelby Daly scored 12 points in the opening period to lift Ashley Ridge to a 17-9 lead. With the help of a pair of 3-point shots from Erika Cobb and Chloe Evans, the Lady Patriots outscored Ashley Ridge 10-6 the next period.

But the second half belonged to the Lady Swamp Foxes. Ashley Ridge held the Fort to 6 points in the third period and 7 in the fourth.

“The key to tonight’s win was our defense,” Ashley Ridge coach Chris Shaw said. “The girls implemented our game plan as close to perfect as they could. We forced a lot of perimeter shots and did a great job on the boards. We had a little problem in the second quarter stopping their penetration but our guards really answered the bell in the second half and did a good job keeping them in front and contesting everything.”

Daly finished with a game-high 21 points after hitting 5 of her 6 free throw attempts. As a team, the Lady Swamp Foxes were 10 of 13 at the line.

Ariel Glover added 8 points for Ashley Ridge and Ashley Tierney added 6.

Cobb led Fort Dorchester with 9 points while Jailah Melvin added 5.

With the victory, Ashley Ridge improved to 10-4 on the season with a 2-0 mark in Region 8-AAAA. Fort Dorchester dropped to 5-7 and 1-1.

Ashley Ridge travels to Summerville Friday while Fort Dorchester travels to Bluffton.
