Dorchester District 2 Board of Trustees elected officers at its first meeting of the new year.
Unanimously reelected were chair Gail Hughes, vice chair Charlie Stoudenmire, and secretary Tanya Robinson.
Superintendent Joe Pye reported that 2,800 staff had attended an outstanding staff development day Jan. 13.
Fort Dorchester High School Culinary Arts Dept., gave a presentation on its EDGE (Education and Development for Graduation and Employment) program, and students served the board and audience gazpacho and miniature cupcakes.
Pay Raynor, public information officer for the district, reported to the board that to date, the district has received 2,416 suggested names for the three new elementary schools in response to the districtís request for community input.
The board requested that Raynor compile the suggestions in a weighted order and have it to the board by Jan. 27 when the board will review them prior to making its decision. The deadline for suggestions is Jan. 21. Anyone wishing to submit a suggestion may do so on the district website or by contacting the district office.
The next meeting of the school board is Jan. 27.
