To celebrate Black History Month, April C. Turner and her company, Life As Art Productions, will come to Dorchester County Library to perform, “Dancing Stories.”

There is a dance for just about every event in African life – harvest dances, wedding dances and dances for celebration. The dances, stories, songs and rhythms bring people together.

Turner is an accomplished actress/artist, appearing in supporting roles for many made for TV movies. One of her most recent roles was playing Dr. Tracey Winston in Army Wives.

Turner specializes in African theatre, dance performance and cultural traditions.

“Dancing Stories” is a performance of traditional songs, stories and dances that demonstrate principles such as working-together, honesty and perseverance. The show is a fun and inspirational way to build community, learn about African culture and bring students, neighbors and friends together for a good time.

There will be two performances held Tuesday, Feb. 3 at McMahan Library in St. George at 4 p.m. and the Seago Library in Summerville at 6:30 p.m.

Both performances are free and open to the public. Please contact your local library for more information: 871-5075 (Summerville) or 563-9189 (St. George).
