Christian Kalacanic was the first-half MVP; John Jenkins was the difference in the third period; and Timmy Singleton slammed the door for the Green Wave in the fourth.
Summerville (13-5, 3-1 in Region 8-AAAA) earned a 60-47 win in a competitive game with Ashley Ridge (5-12, 0-4) Friday.
“Ashley Ridge did a good job guarding us in the first half,” Summerville coach Greg Elliott said. “We couldn’t get any shots. The ones we got early, we didn’t convert them and they just kept hanging around.
“We played very hard but Ashley Ridge played great defense. Timmy and John were basically the difference in the fourth quarter. They did a good job attacking the rim and Timmy iced the game for us with free throws.”
Ashley Ridge jumped out to a 10-8 lead in the first period. However, Kalacanic scored three buckets in the second period to give the Green Wave a 21-18 lead entering the half. The center was a big factor defensively and finished the first half with 10 points.
Sean White sank a shot early in the third to cut the lead to 1, but Summerville’s Tyler Palmer answered with a 3-pointer to return momentum to the Green Wave. Tyquan Tucker hit a pair of 3-pointers and White also scored 6 in the period, but Jenkins scored 8 for Summerville in the third to help the Wave to a 37-31 lead entering the final period.
Jenkins scored 6 points in the fourth while White scored 5.
Unfortunately for the Swamp Foxes, Singleton scored 14 points in the final eight minutes. The point guard was 8 for 9 at the free throw line in the period.
Jenkins led all scorers with 18 points while Singleton finished with 14 and Kalacanic with 10. White led Ashley Ridge with 16 points while Raekwon Jones added 10 for the Swamp Foxes.
Summerville travels to Colleton County Friday while Ashley Ridge hosts Bluffton.
