Batemans will be missed

To the Editor:

This is very hard to write because within about six months we and our community lost two very good people and friends. In July of last year we lost Jim Bateman and on the 13th of this month we lost Martha Bateman.

They both had a heart of gold. They would help anyone they could. Anyone that got to know and be friends with them had friends for life.

Martha, in her job as Victimís Advocate for Dorchester County, not only helped many, but also befriended them.

When we got the Christmas card from Martha with the note in it, it was like getting hit in the stomach with a sledge hammer. We were just trying to finally get over the loss of Jim, then this. I know, however, that both are in a far better place now. Thank you Martha and Jim for allowing us to be your friends.

It is going to be very hard to ride by their home and know that Jim and Martha are no longer there.
