To the Editor:
In following this controversy about the cutting of trees in the median of I-26 I am amazed. I can not believe the mindset to cut the trees down.
According to reports I’ve heard, a guard rail will be put in place of the trees.
Why not install the guard rails and leave the trees alone? Cutting the trees and removing the stumps will cost a bunch of money that doesn’t need to be spent for that purpose.
Use that money instead to install guard rails to keep the cars out of the trees.
There also needs to be more Highway Patrol on that stretch of I-26 to “educate” those drivers that can’t seem to stay on the pavement.
There are an awful lot of Jimmy Johnson and Dale, Jr. wannabees out there that do need this “education.”
Also, people that doze off at the wheel need to realize automobiles and 18-wheelers do not have automatic pilots.
I am a retired trucker and know of what I speak, having driven for 30 plus years coast to coast, border to border, and then some.
