Photo Provided Youngsters take off for the start of the 2013 Shamrock Shuffle Fun Run.

Registration is open for the 2014 Shamrock Shuffle, formerly known as the Flowertown Run.

The run was started years ago by Dr. Bob Randall and Doug McElveen and has grown into a signature event and fundraiser for the Summerville Family YMCA that features a 10K run, 5K run/walk, and one-mile fun run.

Last year more than 1,000 runners and walkers followed the race routes through downtown Summerville, past historic homes and beautiful gardens.

The 2014 Shamrock Shuffle will take place March 15 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. All participants are encouraged to participate in the Bring on Your Green Contest. The top three best dressed Leprechauns or green runners will be recognized.

Other contests include a School Challenge with a $250 gift donation to the winning school’s library up for grabs courtesy of the Summerville Family YMCA, a Corporate Challenge, and the McElveen Buick Chevy GMC Win an iPad Contest for high school participants.

The cost for early registration is $25 for the 5K/10K races and $10 for the Shamrock Shuffle Fun Run. Early registration will continue through March 8.

Individuals can register for the run/walk by visiting any Summerville Family YMCA location or through ymcashamrockshuffle.org or raceroster.com. However, an additional fee will apply for those using raceroster.com.
