The University of South Carolina Athletic program is continuing a statewide initiative to combat childhood obesity for all South Carolina elementary students. It is designed also to help foster interests in team sports and physical activity needed for a healthy lifestyle.

The program is divided into three segments for the year; fall, winter and spring, in which students are offered incentives to attend several South Carolina sporting events.

During the most recent winter session, enrolled students received two Gamecock tickets for a menís and womenís basketball game in January.

At Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School, Physical Education Instructor Taryn Floyd coordinated the program, involving 38 students.

As part of the program, these students were required to keep a daily physical activity Log, meeting an average of 30 minutes per day for a two-week period.

Floyd and her teaching partner, Sandra Millbaugh, dedicated time during their classes to talk about the importance of physical activity.

Windsor Hillís Most Active Gamecock was fourth grader Tyler Gruber. This was the schoolís first year participating in the program.
