  • Friday, February 7, 2014

A Newington Elementary School second grader found a gun in their bookbag Thursday afternoon just before the end of school, according to school officials.

The child took the gun to the teacher and Summerville Police were called.

The child did not know the gun was in the book bag, according to Pat Raynor, DD2 PIO.

The gun, Raybor said, belonged to the child’s parents.

“Summerville Police were called immediately and investigated the incident

last night and today,” according to a statement issued by DD2. “They are still conducting an investigation to determine

all the facts involved in this incident. There was no danger posed to students or staff.”
