Second St. George resident killed in crash

  • Friday, February 7, 2014

Harold James Jennings Jr., 21, of St. George was killed early this morning on Highway 15 N. between Indian Field Circle and tree Farm Rd.

Later in the morning, Mary Willingham Carter, 73, of St. George died as a result of a motor vehicle crash.

Jennings was traveling north on Hwy. 15, in a Toyota 4 Runner, at approximately 5:57 a.m., according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet. Nisbet says “it appears he was traveling too fast for a curve, causing him to leave roadway for about 258 ft. Upon coming back on roadway the vehicle started to flip about three to four times and the decedent, unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to MUSC where he was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma of chest.”

South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.

At 11:37 a.m., police were called to the scene of a second crash where Route 78 and Route 178 split.

Carter was a restrained driver of single car accident, according to Nisbet.

“She ran off the left side of the road for a little while and hit a tree, she was entrapped for quite a while, also,” reads Nisbet’s release. She was “then transported to Trident Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from head and chest trauma. She also sustained lower extremity partial amputation.”
