As part of the YMCA’s mission to help youth succeed in life, the Summerville Family YMCA will offer one $1,000 college scholarship for a low- to moderate-income graduating high school senior. The Hayden Smith YMCA College Scholarship Award is offered to any student who wants to reach their potential by enrolling at a two-year or four-year college or university, and has an affiliation with the YMCA through programs, volunteering or as an employee of the YMCA.
Supported by the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign, this scholarship is based on college entrance scores, high school grades, financial needs, community activities and the person’s embodiment of the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.
All applicants will be reviewed by a selection committee and a final nominee will be selected by March 1, 2014.
All applicants must fully complete an application by Feb. 24, and be willing to accept their scholarship at a YMCA board meeting or special event. This scholarship is available for only one year (freshman year).
