The favorites to claim the Region 8-AAAA boys championship will face off Friday during Summerville High School’s Pink Out.
Green Wave basketball coaches and students are asking fans to wear pink to the game to show support for SHS senior Rachel Reynolds, who is battling cancer. Varsity action is scheduled to begin a 6 p.m. as the Lady Green Wave takes on the Lady Bobcats of Bluffton.
That game will be followed by the main event, a game between the Summerville and Bluffton boys, the teams tied for first place in the region.
The Summerville programs have some momentum built as they swept Beaufort on the road Tuesday.
The Green Wave boys claimed a 52-47 victory to hand Beaufort its third region loss of the season. Summerville improved to 15-5 with a 4-1 mark in region play with the win.
Seniors Christian Kalacanic and John Jenkins powered the Summerville attack, scoring 17 points each. Timmy Singleton and Braylon Wilkerson both chipped in 6 points for the Wave.
The Summerville girls earned a 64-33 win over Beaufort to improve to 14-6 with a 6-0 mark in the region. Zuri Green led the way, posting a team-high 12 points. Rodnesha Capers and Gabriele Stewart both added 9 points for Summerville.
