The Fort Dorchester boys rode a second-quarter surge to a 58-40 win over cross-town rival Ashley Ridge Tuesday.
Led by sophomore Travon Hamilton, the Patriots outscored the Swamp Foxes 17-4 in the second period. Hamilton scored 8 of his game-high 14 points in the period to help Fort Dorchester to a 29-15 lead at the half.
“We had superb effort tonight,” Hamilton said. “We got good rotation on the ball and our bench did a good job. Defensively we struggled in the first period, but then we picked it up.”
Ky Reese added 9 points for the Patriots and Dimitri Carter finished with 8.
Sean White led the Swamp Foxes with 8 points while Tray Jenkins, Don Smithn and Corbin Landers all contributed 6 points.
The Patriots improved to 13-4 on the season with a 4-2 mark in Region 8-AAAA. Ashley Ridge fell to 5-15, 0-7.
With four games remaining, the Patriots trail Summerville and Bluffton by a game in the region standings. The Fort travels to Colleton County Feb. 7 and hosts its first of two games against Summerville Saturday.
“It’s important for us to stay focused on our roles,” Hamilton said. “We just need to do what we do best and take one game at a time.”
Ashley Ridge travels to Beaufort Feb. 7 and hosts Summerville Feb. 11.
