A black male dressed in a black hoodie, black pants, black gloves and black mask armed with a brown rifle or shotgun, robbed Biggby Coffee on Trolley Road last Monday, Feb. 3. No one was hurt and the robber got away with approximately $300.
Summerville Police was called to the store around 9 p.m.
Employees told police the man came in carrying a white pillowcase and demanding all the money from the registers. The clerk put the money from the register in the pillowcase. Another employee came out of the back room and the robber demanded she empty the drive-thru register, following her to the register and watching her unlock it. The clerks were the only ones in the store at the time.
The employees told police the subject’s mask appeared to be a toboggan with holes cut out for eyes and mouth, according to the incident report.
They said the robber left the store running toward ACE Hardware.
Police K-9, Officer Luke, tracked the subject to the Martin’s Creek Apartments where he lost the trail.
Another witness told officers that she had seen a vehicle – a silver Dodge Caliber – in the parking lot where the scent was lost at approximately 8:30 p.m. She said when she returned from walking her dog; she saw the vehicle exit the parking lot at about 9:10 p.m.
Another officer located a black mask near where Officer Luke was tracking. The Biggby clerks identified the mask as the one worn by the robber. Police are processing the mask for DNA.
