A four-year-old, a three-year-old, a two-year-old and a seven-month-old were left unattended for approximately 30 to 35 minutes in an apartment on Orangeburg Rd., in Summerville, Jan. 23, around 11 a.m., according to an incident report.
Dorchester County deputies were dispatched for a report of child neglect. Apparently a painter arrived at the apartment to discover the children there alone and reported it to the apartment complex office.
The office attempted to contact the 23-year-old mother by phone numerous times and also contacted her family in case the mother had been hurt.
Family members arrived along with the mother who said she had only run out for a “few minutes” to return a pot to another apartment. She said she might have been gone 10 to 15 minutes.
DSS was notified and said a caseworker came to the scene. Ultimately the children were placed with their grandmother.
