Summerville firefighters battle a structure fire Thursday night at 116 Camelia Dr.

Summerville firefighters were called to 116 Camelia Dr., Thurs., Feb. 13 at 3:42 a.m. for a structure fire.

When they arrived a fire that started in the garage had fully involved the attached garage, said Battalion Chief Anthony Mire. However, they were able to save the structure although there was some fire damage to the living room and attic. The rest of the home suffered heat and smoke damage.

The family was not at home, having gone to stay with relatives because they had no power. Fortunately, they had taken their pets with them. The power had just come back on prior to the fire call although Mire does not think it had anything to do with the cause of the fire.

One firefighter was taken by EMS to the hospital for a broken leg after he fell over a lawn ornament or flowerpot on the deck in the dark, said Mire.

The last truck returned to the station at 9 a.m. Friday.
