The Ashley Ridge girls’ basketball team will have at least one more home game this winter after surging past Colleton County 38-30 in the final Region 8-AAAA game for both teams on Monday at ARHS.

The Lady Foxes outscored Colleton County 15-3 in the final period to finish second in the region. Ashley Ridge (16-6, 8-2 region) will host either Blythewood or Ridge View in the opening round of the Class AAAA playoffs on Thursday.

“We called a couple of timeouts to get settled down and regain our composure,” Ashley Ridge coach Chris Shaw said. “The last few minutes we put emphasis on having a good possession each time. The girls went out there and executed on the floor.”

Shelby Daly led the Lady Foxes with 14 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Her 3-pointer with 4:19 left gave Ashley Ridge a 30-29 lead, an advantage it would never relinquish.

Katie Burnette added nine points and Kelly Cousins chipped in six points for the Lady Foxes.

Deyja Brown had 11 points to lead Colleton County, which travels to Cane Bay on Thursday in the playoffs. Alicia Williams had eight points.

“For us to get the home game is a step in the right direction,” Shaw said. “We know postseason basketball is a whole new season. No matter who we play they’re going to be hungry. We’ve got to clean up some things and get ready for Thursday.”
