Man killed by falling branch

  • Thursday, February 20, 2014

Jason Couch, 43, of Pristine Court in the Legend Oaks Neighborhood and husband and father of two young children, was doing yard work at his residence, when a tree limb fell out of a tree above him and struck him in the head, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.

“Couch was pronounced dead in his back yard. An autopsy Thursday morning showed his cause of death to be a Brain Injury due to Blunt Force Trauma to his Head.”

“He was by himself when the event occurred and was found by his wife when she arrived back home with the children at approx. 4:30 p.m., said Nisbet.

“I believe due to the high winds yesterday and the recent freeze storm last week is what caused this accident to happen, but DCSD is investigating.”

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the death was due to a falling tree limb and note that trees are still quite dangerous, as all broken limbs are not down yet.
