Swamp Fox boys beat Cougars

File Raekwon Jones led Ashley Ridge in scoring Mondahy as ARHS defeated Colleton County.

The Swamp Fox boys ended their season on a positive note.

Ashley Ridge earned a 58-44 victory over Colleton County Monday. Neither team has qualified for this year’s playoffs, but the teams played for pride at Ashley Ridge.

“It was nice to finish on a win and good for our seniors,” Swamp Fox coach Brian Welch said. “This year has been a tough one and a year of heartbreakers on many nights. We lost nine games by single digits and five of those were in overtime with one double overtime game.“

On the bright side for Ashley Ridge, the Swamp Foxes fielded a young team this season but still managed to give most teams a good fight.

“The majority of our team was young and inexperienced,” Welch said. “They learned some tough lessons this year that will hopefully carry over into next year as now they have the experience of going through a Varsity season.”

The Cougars jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the opening period, but then the Swamp Foxes outscored Colleton 22-14 in the second. After both teams scored a dozen in the third period, Ashley Ridge outscored the Cougars 15-6 in the final period.

Raekwon Jones led Ashley Ridge in scoring with a game-high 17 points. Sean White and Tyquan Tucker both added 9 points while Brandon Brown and Jerimiah King both added 6.

Jami Sanders led Colleton County with 14 points.
