Swamp Fox golf team claims runner-up prize

The Swamp Foxes had the top performance among the Summerville-area teams during this year’s Patriot Invitational golf tournament.

Ashley Ridge came in with a score of 621 to claim runner-up honors for the 10th annual Patriot Invitational high school boys’ golf tournament hosted by Fort Dorchester. Easley came in five strokes ahead of the Swamp Foxes to claim the winner’s trophy. Fort Dorchester carded a 628 to place third and Summerville finished with a 696 score and in 13th place.

“We have a strong team this year and have set high goals,” Ashley Ridge coach Chris Shaw said. “The first round we shot a team total of 318, but we came back with a second round total of 303.

Fort Dorchester’s R.J. Keur shot a 140 to claim low medalist honors. Ashley Ridge’s Zak Butt placed third individually with rounds of 75 and 72 while Swamp Fox Austin Zoller placed fourth overall with rounds of 76 and 72. They, Ben Crimminger, Doug Hetzel and Jacob Daley were named to the all-tournament team.
