Provided Former Pinewood Prep standout Raygon Hendrix was named the top freshman for her conference last week.

Due West, S.C. – Erskine’s Raygon Hendrix (Summerville – Pinewood Preparatory School) was voted Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year by the head coaches of the member institutions as announced last week at the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament Banquet held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Uptown Charlotte.

Hendrix was also named Second Team All-Conference.

The 5’2 point guard directed her team to a 14-13 overall record and 9-9 in conference play. Last year the Flying Fleet only won three games.

Hendrix led the Fleet in scoring, assists and steals this season, averaging 13.3 points and 3.9 assists per game. She also had 68 steals on the season, tops in the conference.

Her best game this season was missed by most Fleet fans as it came on the road against Belmont Abbey on Jan. 30. In that game, Hendrix tossed in 35 points, going 10 of 20 from the floor, including 4 of 8 from behind the arc. She also handed out 6 assists and 5 steals.

Her most memorable game was in mid-January when she nailed the game-winning basket on a contested layup with 7 second remaining to send the Flying Fleet to a stunning 57 to 56 victory over the visiting Trojans of the University of Mount Olive.
