Two Pinewood school records broken

Photos provided Mason Hazel, on Saturday, set a new Pinewood record for the boys’ 1600-meter race.


The Pinewood track team came away with podium finishes during the Sandlapper Invitational in West Ashley Saturday.

In total, four Pinewood athletes made it to the podium for awards.

Eighth-grader Maryah Nasir took control of the girls 1600-meter race and never looked back. Nasir won by more than 10 seconds to set a new meet record, PR, and school record with a time of 5:09.61. Isabelle Greenstreet placed eighth in the same event, running a 5:57.

In the boys’ 1600 senior Mason Hazel drove the field out fast. He battled to place third with a PR and school record of 4:26.5. Joseph Siegel won his heat of the1,600 and placed sixth overall with a time of 4:49.5.
