A College of Charleston coach claimed top honors for the 2014 Summerville YMCA Shamrock Shuffle 10K race.

Jason Bryan, a 28-year-old Summerville resident and assistant coach for the Cougars’ cross country team, was the first to cross the finish line during the second annual Shamrock Shuffle 10K race. Bryan finished the race, formerly known as the Flowertown Festival 10K, in 34 minutes and 41 seconds to break the old course record of 35:41 set during the Shamrock Shuffle’s inaugural year.

Saturday was Bryan’s first time participating in the Summerville Y’s annual race. He also works at Fleet Feet Sports and said he wanted to represent the company in a 10K.

“I wanted to run a 10K and this is more open than the Bridge Run,” he said. “The crowd isn’t as big and my wife also ran.”

He found the course to his liking.

“It’s pretty smooth,” he said. “I like doing two loops. You have the 5K happening at the same time so you always have someone to chase after and run with.”

Jason Annan, 39, of Mt. Pleasant finished in 36:02 to claim runner-up honors and Dimitri Nassyroo, 25, placed third with a 38:43 time.

Summerville’s Sandy O’Keefe, 35, was the first female to finish, claiming top female honors with a 40:03 time. Rachael Butler, 31, of Mt. Pleasant crossed at 40:38 to claim runner-up honors for the ladies and Sarah Harriman, 30, of Columbus, N.C. placed third with a 41:52 time.

Brendan Silver, 46, of Sullivan’s Island finished in 39:34 to win the Male Masters Overall division. Katherine Owens, 53, of Summerville crossed in 46:11 to win the Female Masters Overall division.

Brian Fancher, 45, of Charleston won the 5K race with a 17:48 time. Justyn Lodge, 17, of Summerville placed second with a 19:15 time and Paul Waltes, 36, placed third with a 19:16 time.

Charity Fillmore, 31, of Ridgeville won the female overall division with a 20:48 finish. Courtney Corvino, 18, of Goose Creek placed second in the division with a 21:14 time and Melissa Cunningham, 33, of Summerville placed third with a 21:33 time.

Jack Buchanan, 46, of Mt. Pleasant won the Male Masters Overall division with a 21:11 time. Mary Mauldin, 62, of Charleston won the Female Masters Overall division with a 24:42 time.
