To the Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to publically thank Summerville Community Acupuncture for their compassion and skill in helping to greatly improve the quality of my life.
Seventeen years ago, I suffered a gunshot wound that left a golf ball sized hole in my brain. My injuries left me paralyzed on the entire left side of my body from the top of my head to the bottom of my foot.
Six months later, spasticity set in and my pain levels spiked to level nine (on the pain scale). My doctors had written me off because they did not have any treatments that they thought could help me. So for 17 years, I was fed a steady stream of narcotic pain killers to help manage my pain.
In January 2013 I began receiving acupuncture treatments to attempt to lower my pain levels. These treatments have allowed me to reduce my pain levels to a manageable level and have allowed me to overcome my addiction to narcotic pain medications that I required for 17 years. Scalp acupuncture also enabled me to regain partial movement and feeling in my long paralyzed limbs.
Another amazing benefit is that acupuncture has also been used to treat my PTSD that has haunted me for over 50 years. I suffered for decades because I did not know relief was available through acupuncture.
I would like to use this opportunity to encourage anyone suffering from the effects of strokes, Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI’s), chronic pain or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to try acupuncture.
