The Dorchester County Coroner has determined the skeletal remains found Thursday afternoon in an abandoned house on Parsons Rd., in Summerville, are that of male who appears to have been dead for more than five years. Coroner Chris Nisbet released that information Friday afternoon.
A call came into dispatch at 3:07 p.m. Thursday from a man who takes pictures of abandoned houses, saying that he found a body, said Nisbet.
Summerville Police responded to 106 Parson's Road by Spell's grocery. However, according to SPD, the address was determined not to be in the Town of Summerville and the investigation was handed over to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
Initially the coroner said the body appeared to be male, judging by clothing.
“I will know more once my anthropologist reviews remains, but it appears that the decedent has been there for a long time,” Nisbet said.
“The individual is what I would classify as a skeleton with mummification also. It also appears the decedent was fully clothed at the time they died there or were placed there.
