The social media savvy may have noticed the Town of Summerville has a new Facebook page this week, just one of many updates coming the town’s way thanks to new employee Tiffany Norton.

Summerville’s first Events and Media Coordinator began her position March 17 and has already gotten to work.

“It’s a little of everything I enjoy,” Norton said of the position. Her job responsibilities include managing the Town’s web presence, acting as a public information officer and organizing events.

She described her role as “just an organizer of chaos.”

“I definitely won’t be bored,” she said.

Among her goals for the position are planning more Town sponsored events, streamlining the website and creating a presence within social media that will keep younger demographics informed.

Creating the Town’s Facebook page was the first step in this process, she said, and a task she’s already accomplished.

Norton has a variety of experience in all of the job focus areas, including her work in marketing at Viamedia, in event planning with the South Carolina, Charleston and Summerville Jaycees chapters and in government through her political science degree from the College of Charleston.

Norton also served with the U.S. Coast Guard for more than 12 years, during which time she traveled the world. She said Russia is the most interesting place she’s traveled, with Costa Rica as a close second.

Traveling is not her only hobby, though; in her spare time Norton also said she enjoys taking spin classes, playing soccer, visiting with friends at Accent on Wine, and playing with her two dogs, both Beagle-Jack Russell Terrier mixes. A Florida native, she is a Gators fan. Norton has lived in Summerville since 2006.
