The Green Wave softball team remains undefeated this season after earning a 5-2 win over Stratford Saturday.

Summerville improved to 9-0 including tournaments. In regular season games, the Wave has defeated Stratford twice, Hanahan and West Ashley.

“We aren’t where we want to be, but for the most part we are playing well and hitting the ball well,” Summerville coach Heather Tucker said. “We need to tighten up our middle game so that is what we are focusing on right now. We have had different kids step up for us, which is nice because that’s what you want.”

Leadoff batter Taylor Powell and No. 3 batter Sarah Windham are leading the way offensively so far this season.

Summer Jenkins went the distance in the circle Saturday to improve her pitching record to 5-0. She also led the way at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Her courtesy runner scored two runs.

Catcher Taylor Belfiore was 2 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. She reached base three times while Windham, Taylor Wuerfel and Hannah Horton all reached base twice for Summerville.

Nikki Linthicum took the pitching loss. Designated player Kayli Lehmer led the Knights at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The Wave had a solid start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Powell got things going with a single and moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Anna Gluhosky. Summerville then loaded the bases on singles by Windham and Jenkins.

Belfiore drove in the first two runs with a single and then Wuerfel and Dani Halajcsik drove in runs for a 4-0 Summerville lead.

The Wave added a run the next inning. Jenkins and Belfiore singled and then Wuerfel got a hit to drive in courtesy runner Lauren Keefer.

Stratford got on the board in the top of the fourth. Hannah Roberts was hit by a pitch and moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Ryan. Roberts then scored on a single by Lehmer.

Stratford’s other run came in the top of the seventh when Taylor Haffa led off with a solo homerun to left field.

This week, Summerville travels to Colleton County March 26 and hosts Beaufort March 28.
