Singers to perform Broadway tunes festival weekend

When the town of Summerville rolls out the red carpet for thousands of guests at the Flowertown Festival this year, the sounds of show-stopping Broadway melodies will accompany the celebration. On Saturday April 5, Summerville Baptist Church (417 Central Ave.) will host the Singers of Summerville as they present “Best of Broadway.”

The concert will crown the Singers’ successful 10th anniversary season with a program of the best-loved arrangements from the entire history of their spring Broadway series.

The evening will features songs from Irving Berlin’s playful “Annie Get Your Gun” and Rogers and Hammerstein’s soul-stirring classic, “The Sound of Music,” to sizzling Gershwin jazz and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s dramatic “Phantom of the Opera.”

Singers of Summerville has fostered a high caliber of vocal performance since its inception in 2003. Now under the direction of Dr. Valerie Bullock, Chair of the Horton School of Music, Professor of Music, and Director of Choral Activities at Charleston Southern University, the group consistently showcases the best in sacred and secular music for the enjoyment of the Greater Charleston community.
