The South Carolina Piano Festival sponsors statewide piano auditions in two regions, Rock Hill and Columbia, with students divided into three divisions from each region: Elementary, Junior and Senior. To be selected a student must earn a rating of I+ in his or her respective audition. Ten piano students of Myungsook Song Stoudenmire were chosen to play in the Region II Honorís recitals held on March 22 in the Recital Hall of the University of South Carolinaís School of Music. Stoudenmire of Summerville, who also teaches at Charleston Southern University, instructs students from both the Summerville and Columbia area.
The performers for SCPF were David Jiang (Honorable Mention), Spencer Kiang (Honorable Mention), Skyla Kiang (Division Winner) in the Elementary Division; Myra Cai, seventh grade; Jenning Chen and Annelise Pagan, sixth grade at Rollings Middle School; Danielle Paxton, seventh grade at Rollings Middle School; Sophie Shelborn, seventh grade at Rollings Middle School; Daniel Tse and Steven Yeung, eighth grade at Westview Middle School in the Junior Division; Haven Xu, 10th grade at Academic Magnet High School and Qiang Zhang in the Senior Division. Jenning Chen, ninth grade, is the winner of the concerto division and Qiang Zhang, 11th grade, won both solo and concerto in the Senior Division. Annelise Pagan and Haven Xu received honorable mentions in the Division.
