This year Flowertown Festival goers will not see the merry-go-round.
However, a new ride will be there for everyone to enjoy – a Ferris wheel.
Brinkley Entertainment, Inc. is responsible for bringing the rides to the Flowertown Festival – which they have been doing for more than 20 years, said officer manager Laura White.
White said the new Ferris wheel is a vintage piece that has been completely restored.
“It’s beautiful,” she said. “We’re very proud of it.”
The Ferris wheel will replace the merry-go-round but a lot of classics are coming back to the festival. Families can depend on seeing the Berry-Go-Round, which consists of four giant berries – complete with leaves, vines and seeds, that rotates at the speed of which its passenger desires. The Fiberglass Super Slide is coming, and measures at 35 feet high and 100 feet long.
There will also be the Paratrooper, which gives passengers the feel of parachuting in the sky, and the Motorcycle Jump, which children can ride and go over jumps and pop some wheelies while they are in motion. White said the swing ride is coming back, along with the Taxi Jet, which consists of riders travelling in little colorful taxis, and each car goes up, down and around.
Thomas the Train is coming back and can carry up to 24 children.
White also said there is a Super Trucks ride, which allows room for parents to accompany kids in the backseat of their car. There is also a ride called the Hot Shot, which is upgraded and completely re-painted, re-themed and re-computerized.
“It really gives you quite the ‘up-down’ action,” White said.
As far as games go White said there will still be the classic water races, balloon pops and fishing games. The entertainment also brings cotton candy, candy apples and will be introducing a new sour apple–flavored warhead candies.
“We developed the sugar that goes on them,” White said. “Those things are addicting. Kids love them. They don’t burn your mouth like a normal warhead – it’s a pleasurable experience.”
The Flowertown Festival is the only Summerville event Brinkley Entertainment is a part of throughout the year. The company comes from Walnut Cove, N.C.
“Summerville is one of my favorite spots because we’re going into warmth,” White said. “It’s the kick-off of spring for me. It’s one of my favorite places to go.”
White added this is also the company’s first big festival of the year.
“I’m looking forward to just having a really good year,” she said. “2014 needs to be a good year.”
