Dr. Rya Kaplan is proud of her Lowcountry roots. A graduate of Hilton Head High, she returned to the coast for her medical school, residency and fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina.

She specializes in treating disorders of the digestive system, pancreas, liver and gallbladder, and it's not unusual for her patients to have potentially embarrassing symptoms. "I try to make every patient who comes in here feel extremely comfortable," says Dr. Kaplan, who practices with Coastal Carolina Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Dr. Kaplan is also trained to use sophisticated endoscopic ultrasound procedures to diagnose cancers and other diseases.

"Whatever the situation, I'm careful to explain things in a way the patient can understand."  - Rya Kaplan, MD
