To the Editor:
Recently, I suffered a bout of pneumonia. Thankfully, I was admitted to Summerville Medical Center. I have had several hospital experiences, but none to compare with the high level of care at SMC.
The entire staff--doctors, nurses, techs, respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, food staff, environmental services-- exhibited a level of professional and compassionate teamwork that I have never before experienced.
Two years ago, I was stricken with a stomach problem that required a three-day visit to SMC. I was impressed then and even more on my recent five-day stay. The entire staff is personable, assured and, more importantly, kind.
I realize that the Low Country has several fine hospitals. I believe each one would be well-served to send representatives to observe at SMC.
Excellent medical care is a right, a privilege and a gift. The residents of the Summerville area can be justly proud to support such a fine facility.
Go visit, even if you aren’t sick! Observe the staff and array of volunteers in action.
If you are there on Monday, you might meet Bailey, a trained therapy dog. If you are there on Friday, don’t miss meeting Isabella, a very lady-like black Cocker Spaniel. You’ll smile for the rest of the day.
This very satisfied patient salutes you all!
