Town Engineer Russ Cornette has been appointed to be the new Town Director of Public Works.
At the April 9 Summerville Town Council meeting, Mayor Bill Collins addressed the vacant director position. The previous director, the late Charlie Miller, had planned to retire on April 11 and Cornette was previously selected to serve as the interim director. Miller died from lung cancer last month and Cornette stepped in as interim director, as planned.
“I’m asking we consider making the appointment of him as public works director permanent,” the mayor said.
Council unanimously voted in favor.
Cornette has worked as the Town Engineer since 2005.
“I’m very excited about it, the opportunity to lead the public works department,” he said. “I’m excited Council had the confidence in me to appoint me to do it. I hope to leave it better than I inherited it.”
