Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a murder after a body was found Friday morning in the Givhans area of Ridgeville off U.S.-61.

The victim was identified as Drew M. Shumway, 24, of St. Johns Bethel Street, Moncks Corner. He had been missing from Berkeley County since April 5. An autopsy confirmed his cause of death was a gunshot wound, according to an incident report.

A woman went to check on a couch in her cousin’s shed Friday morning when she saw a white male lying on the floor and called 911, according to the DCSO incident report.

She told investigators her cousin owns the property and she was going to move on it in the near future.

She said she may have seen an unknown vehicle on the property the night of April 9.

The investigation continues. Check back with this website for updates.
