Swamp Foxes preparing for showdown with Summerville

  • Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Roger Lee/Journal Scene Pitcher Jason Miller led the Swamp Foxes to a 12-2 win over Bluffton last week.

The Ashley Ridge baseball team picked up two key region wins last week.

The Swamp Foxes defeated Bluffton 12-2 and Beaufort 4-1 to improve to 14-2 with a 7-1 mark in Region 8-AAAA. Summerville is the only other team with only one loss in the region and the Green Wave travels to Ashley Ridge April 21 for a game that will likely settle the region championship.

“I’m proud of the way our guys rebounded after losing our first game with Summerville,” Ashley Ridge coach B.J. Bellush said.

“Our pitchers are throwing well and the defense is playing well behind them. We aren’t walking a lot of batters and our mental toughness is getting better. Our guys are just refusing to lose games.”

Jason Miller (3-0) had the pitching win against Bluffton, pitching six innings before the game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule. Miller was also 3 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBIs. Josh Litchfield was 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

Carson Walls had the pitching win against Beaufort and Josh Church earned the save.

This week, Ashley Ridge is playing in the Hanahan Invitational Tournament.

The Ashley Ridge boys’ tennis team also notched a big win last week, knocking off Fort Dorchester 6-0. The Lady Swamp Fox softball team earned a 6-0 win over Beaufort.
