Habitat Family Festival set for May 10

  • Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Dorchester Habitat for Humanity has announced a new and exciting annual event, the Habitat Family Festival, taking place Saturday, May 10 in Azalea Park in downtown Summerville from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The festival will be a celebration of families as well as a fundraiser for DHFH’s 50th home building project.

Highlights of the event include kids’ games and craft activities, area food trucks, a fashion show sponsored by TJ Maxx and Marshalls, other entertainment by area school performance groups, and other music.

Local business and craft booths and a silent auction will also be featured for attendees to enjoy.

Admission is free, and tickets for food and games will be sold on site.

“We wanted to create a fun event where there was something to do for everyone, and include as much of the community as possible.” Habitat Development Manager Monica Nagy said.

Expect surprises around every corner ... children can create Mother’s or Father’s Day cards, decorate a cupcake, jump around in the bounce houses or participate in other fun games.

Since Mother’s Day is the same weekend, moms can expect special treats in addition to the fashion show.

The Family Festival will be the culminating event that wraps up Habitat’s National Women Build week.

It highlights a week of construction on Dorchester Habitat’s Sixth Annual Women Build, which will benefit Jennifer and Craig Blewer.

The four-bedroom home, located at 107 Weber Drive, will have special handicap access features to help Craig, who struggles with Multiple Sclerosis. Jennifer works at Zaxby’s of Summerville, and the couple has four children.

Other event sponsors include the Summerville Journal Scene, Clear Channel Communications, Modern Woodmen of America, Pepsi Co., Madra Rua, DisasterCare, Kolter Homes, Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, Millie Lewis Modeling Agency and Thrivent Financial.

Booth space is still available.
