Art Shepard, MD

As a Trident Health neonatologist, Dr. Arthur Shepard champions the most vulnerable of patients, newborns who arrive too soon or otherwise need extra medical attention. For more than a decade, Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center have offered Level 2 nursery care, and over the past year, they have made significant invest- ments in those nurseries. Yet Dr. Shepard talks to people who are surprised to learn that their hometown hospitals can care for babies born as early as 32 weeks into pregnancy or as small as 3.3 pounds.

“What we’re trying to do is keep new- borns with their moms and their families as much as possible, and that’s why I am here.” - Art Shepard, MD
