Lt. Col. Robert G. Beebe

Lt. Col. (USAF Retired) Robert G. Beebe, husband of Elisabeth (Betty) Davenport Beebe of Summerville, passed away April 10, 2014. He was 89.

Born in Kalkaska, Michigan, on Jan. 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Robert E. Beebe and Inez Albert Beebe. Col. Beebe was a navigator on a B-24 in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he was in the first class of U.S. Air Force Jet Pilots to graduate, which was known as the guinea pig class. Through the years he thoroughly enjoyed his Air Force career as a fighter pilot before retiring from the Pentagon in 1967 and entering into new civilian careers. He then joined the Continental Motor group in Detroit, and later managed a generator plant for them, Continental Teledyne Co., in Walterboro, SC. After retiring from Teledyne, he enjoyed having his own successful Solar System business.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He has been a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He received his graduate degree from George Washington University. He belonged to various flying clubs through the years. Along with flying, he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing in Northern Michigan and Canada with his son and grandsons. He was a past president of Kiwanis in Summerville.

Col. Beebe is survived by his wife, Elisabeth (Betty) Davenport Beebe to whom he was married for 63 years. He is also survived by his five children: daughters Dawn McChesney, Dorinda Rady (Paul), Drew Beasley, Devon Barnes (Tim), and son Dr. Robert G. Beebe Jr. (Monica), 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanne, and a brother, Albert Beebe.

Burial will be held at Lake City Cemetery in Lake City, Michigan on Saturday, April 19.
