Pinewood Prep has invited interested runners to register for its 2014 Pinewood Back Nine 5K and One-Mile Fun Run. The event, presented by American Automated Payroll (AAP), is a USATF-certified race that will unfold along the beautiful pathways of Summerville’s Legend Oaks Golf Club.
Once again, Pinewood Prep is putting a philanthropic spin on its annual 5K race, partnering with Summerville-based Children in Crisis, Inc. to share in the proceeds of this year’s event.
Children in Crisis, Inc. supports the Dorchester Children’s Center, which is dedicated to creating communities in which children and families live free from abuse and are free to reach their full potential.
“We are pleased to support the work of both Pinewood Prep and Children in Crisis, worthwhile local organizations that are making a difference in children’s lives every day,” said Andrew Osborne, president of AAP. “What’s more, the race helps promote the importance of exercise and healthy living among both young and young at heart.”
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Pinewood Back Nine 5K will help promote the national Pinwheels for Prevention campaign, a call to all Americans to aid in the healthy development of our nation’s children.
The Pinwheel is the focus of the campaign, and a symbol of healing and hope. For more information, visit www.pinwheelsforprevention.org.
As part of this nationwide effort, pinwheels will be displayed along the pathways of the race. Interested individuals may support the cause by purchasing a pinwheel that displays their unique message for $25.
The Pinewood Back Nine 5K will kick-off at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Legend Oaks Golf Club, located at 118 Legend Oaks Way in Summerville. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers overall, and to the top finishers in each standard five-year age group.
All finishers in the One-Mile Fun Run will receive a prize, and awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each of the following categories: ages 6 and under; ages 7-8; ages 9-10; and ages 11-12.
Additional sponsors include Smith Closser, P.A., Carolina Center of Gynecologic Oncology and C. T. Lowndes and Company. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
Registration is $30 for the 5K and $15 for the One-Mile Fun Run. Space is limited and early registration is advised. Visit www.pinewoodprep.com to register, or contact Jennifer Smith at email@example.com for sponsorships, pinwheels and additional information.
