A recorded bomb threat was phoned in to Summerville Elementary School on Thursday morning.
Students and staff were evacuated according to the Dorchester District 2 crisis management plan for safety, PIO Pat Raynor said.
Police and emergency services were on site. Students and staff returned to the school as everything was cleared, Raynor said.
“We’re still working it trying to determine were the call came from,” Summerville Police Department Capt. Jon Rogers said at about midday. “The call came in at about 8:30 a.m.”
As of 11 a.m. students were at recess on the playground and everything looked as if it had returned to normal.
The district sent a parent link message to let parents know what was going on.
“Police are continuing to investigate the source of the threat,” Raynor said. “We always take everything like that very seriously. Unfortunately threats of that nature do occur occasionally.”
