The Faith Sellers Senior Center was transformed into a tropical oasis April 25 as a “thank you” to volunteers.
In 2013, 226 volunteers donated 16,526 hours to the Dorchester Seniors, Inc., senior centers in Summerville and St. George. Last Friday the organization hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon to celebrate its volunteers.
The volunteers perform a variety of duties within the organization, including providing transportation and home care.
According to Susan Seay, volunteer coordinator, Dorchester Seniors served 24,204 group dining meals and 56,640 home delivered meals, drove 278,102 transportation miles and provided 10,061 homecare hours during 2013 all thanks to the volunteers.
The luncheon served in their honor featured tropical-themed decorations, entertainment and lunch.
Several key members of Dorchester Seniors offered their thanks to the volunteers, including Board of Directors President Robert Ford.
“Anybody can give money, it’s easy to give money, but giving time is a sacrifice, so thank you,” Ford said. “We look forward to seeing you next year.”
