Paige Deschaine’s right arm remains a dangerous weapon.
Deschaine, an Ashley Ridge graduate who is now a pitcher for the Georgia Regents University softball team, was named second-team Peach Belt All-Conference on April 17 during a banquet in Florence. On Tuesday, the former Swamp Fox received the Most Improved Award for the Jaguars’ softball team during the GRU Athletic Awards Banquet.
Deschaine ended the 2014 regular season with 240 strikeouts to rank third among Peach Belt Conference pitchers.
The sophomore was sixth best for ERA in the league at 2.15.
She recorded 12 double-figure strikeout performances this season – highlighted by her career-high, 16-KO performance in a complete game win against Georgia Southwestern on April 6.
While holding batters to a .197 average on the year, Deschaine led GRU in ERA, wins (12), innings pitched (179), and strikeouts while making 27 starts.
Deschaine helped the Jaguars secure the No. 8 seed for the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament, where GRU advanced to the quarterfinals and fell to The University of North Georgia.
