Summerville High School graduate Sarah Montei continues to shine on the softball field.
The former Green Wave centerfielder helped the University of South Carolina Aiken softball team advance to the quarterfinals of the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament, where the Pacers dropped a 9-8 contest to Columbus State. USC Aiken entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
The Pacers are 32-14 on the year and ranked sixth in the third NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings, which were released last week. The top eight teams in each region advance so the Pacers will find out next week if it will play in the NCAA Tournament.
Montei has the fourth best batting average (.293) and on base percentage (.373) on the team. The sophomore is second best in the stolen bases category with nine steals.
On the season, Montei has 39 hits including three homeruns, two triples and five doubles. The outfielder has 20 RBI, which ties her for third on the team in the category. Her slugging percentage is .429 and she has scored 17 runs.
She is one of only four players on the team with a perfect fielding percentage.
