DD2 construction projects moving along

During a scheduled school board meeting April 28, Rick Rogers, director of facilities for DD2, gave board members his monthly update on the district’s ongoing construction projects. The updates include:

• The school security entrances are moving along. The following schools are receiving some sort of front office renovations in order to ensure safer entrances: Beech Hill, Dubose Middle, Fort Dorchester High, Gregg Middle, Fort Dorchester Elementary, Spann Elementary, Knightsville Elementary, Newington Elementary, Alston Middle, Oakbrook Elementary, Oakbrook Middle, Rollings Middle, Summerville Elementary, Summerville High and Windsor Hill.

• The annual facilities walk through has been completed. The facilities committee has completed its review and recommendations and is making plans to implement the approved projects this summer.

• The review committee for REP 1314-10 waste compactors is in the process of reviewing proposals provided by trash compaction firms. The committee is seeking clarifications and additional information to evaluate the best option for the district’s operations.

• The relocation of the facilities operations has begun. Relocation of the maintenance shops should be completed this week with office relocation beginning May 1.

In addition to making plans to implement approved projects for this summer, the district will be employing student painters for the summer projects. Students go through and application process and Rogers said the schools are encouraged to utilize people from their school.

“Most of the high schools have their teams in place,” Rogers said, “We encourage them to utilize people from the school because then they take a certain pride and do a better job on the school.”
